Hero Xtreme 200R launched at Rs. 89,900
Hero MotoCorp has confirmed that the Xtreme 200R will hit the showrooms across the country carrying a price tag of Rs. 89,900 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Xtreme 200R is Hero’s largest capacity motorcycle after the evergreen Karizma which has been around for ages and it now has to take on the likes of the highly acclaimed TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200. While it does give existing Hero owners an option to upgrade within the brand itself, the motorcycle does seem to have arrived a couple of years late to the 200cc party.
The new 200cc single cylinder motor develops 18.2bhp at 8,000rpm and 17.1Nm at 6,500rpm and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The engine also features a counter-balancer for higher refinement levels. The chassis and the rear sub-frame of the Xtreme 200R are new. The front forks are 37mm in diameter and the rear monoshock is seven-step adjustable. The motorcycle is equipped with disc brakes at both ends and gets a single channel ABS unit as standard right off the bat. You can read what our asst. ed. Aninda Sardar had to say about the Xtreme 200R here, as he took it for a quick spin a couple of months earlier.
Pawan Munjal, Hero MotoCorp’s MD & CEO, said at the dealer meeting at the Buddh International Circuit today, “For us, the Xtreme 200R is not just any other product launch – it will catapult us to where we have been earlier – the premium segment. It is, therefore, our re-entry into a segment where we had a sizeable presence and market share not too long ago. Designed specifically for the youth, the Xtreme 200R is an expression of our serious intent in a high growth segment. We will also soon commence sales of the Xtreme 200R in our global markets as well,” he added.
As previously mentioned, the Xtreme 200R goes up against the Pulsar NS200 and the Apache RTR 200 4V. The NS 200 starts at Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.12 lakh for the non-ABS and ABS versions. The Apache RTR 4V starts at Rs 96,730 for the base model and goes all the way to Rs 1.10 lakh for the fuel injected, ABS equipped version. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. Considering the pricing of the Xtreme 200R, Hero has positioned the bike strongly against its rivals. But in terms of performance, do not expect the bike to deliver thrills like that of its rivals, which Aninda elaborates here in his first ride report.
