Hyundai launches Venue with iMT gearbox for Rs 9.99 lakh

The company has also introduced a new Sport Trim for the Venue, featuring a host of cosmetic go-faster bits

Hyundai recently announced the iMT gearbox for the Venue — a first-of-its-kind clutchless manual transmission, which aims to offer the best of both worlds. Prices have finally been announced for the iMT Venue, and a new Sport Trim line has been introduced with a bunch of red accents, and a couple of new colours too. The six-speed iMT will be mated to the peppy 1-litre turbocharged, three-cylinder engine. Prices for the iMT equipped Venue range from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 11.2 lakh, putting it in between the manual and DCT options.

What is iMT?

You can read all the details about the iMT gearbox here but, put simply, it is a manual gearbox with a set of clever sensors that can recognise when the driver wants to change gears and operates the clutch on its own, automatically. There is no third pedal in the car, and the gear selector is like a regular H-pattern one. The theoretical benefits of the iMT gearbox is that it should offer some of the engagement of driving a manual car (although operating the clutch is a huge part of that), while also giving rest to your left leg and providing the convenience of an automatic. Another benefit of an iMT gearbox is that it is a whole lot more affordable than a DCT.

Sport Trim

The Sport Trim in the Hyundai Venue is strictly cosmetic, with red brake callipers, red details on the wheel arches and some red touches on the inside too. The Sport Trim also gets a black front grille, with a red insert and dark grey front bumper trim and roof rail. The Sport Trim costs an average of Rs 20,000 more than the equivalent standard variant.

Pricing

Prices for the iMT equipped Venue start at Rs 9.99 lakh for the SX variant, and go up to Rs 11.2 lakh for the SX(O) Sport Trim. This makes the iMT Venue just Rs 20,000 more expensive than the manual SX variant with the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine. The top-end SX(O) variant with the iMT is also Rs 27,000 more affordable than the top-end SX+ DCT variant. You can take a look at the full price list below:
