Kia reveal name for its SP2i concept, to be called ‘Seltos’

Korean brand Kia had initially given us a teaser concept codenamed the SP2i, a mid-size that was to be their first Indian offering. They have now been unveiled the SP2i in production form. The Korean brand has now revealed that it will be called the Seltos, a name derived from Greek mythology and legend of Celtos, the son of Hercules.

The brand says that the name Seltos represents the brave and assertive spirit of Celtos, the ‘S’ in the car’s adapted name implying speed, sportiness and strength. The Seltos combines the practicality of a mid-SUV with the capabilities of a traditional SUV, which the brand maintains it does in a compact yet sporty package.

Externally, the Seltos gives us a glimpse of the distinctive details that Kia wants to make a characteristic of its product image, such as its long hood, strong character line which continues into the front bumper, and sharp lines pressed into the bodywork. The external creases are matched with a high-set glasshouse that tapers towards the rear of the car, which lends the Seltos a commanding yet sporty silhouette.

The Seltos will be manufactured at Kia’s state-of-the-art facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh from where it will be exported. The Kia Seltos is all set to have its world premier in India on 20 June and will be launched in the second half of 2019.

Speaking about the brand’s first offering in India, Manohar Bhat, head, marketing and sales, Kia Motors India said, “The Seltos is all set to redefine the mid-SUV car segment with its eye-catching looks, exclusive segment first features and athletic design. We have spent a lot of time in perfecting our car to suit the taste of the Indian customers and I am glad that this originally India-intended car is so perfect that it compelled us to make the Seltos available globally. The car looks absolutely stunning and very closely matches the SP concept we showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. I am confident that the Seltos will be an outright favorite when it hits the roads in the next few months.”
