Kia Sonet crosses the 1 lakh sales milestone in India

The Kia Sonet has now become the fourth-highest selling SUV in India

Perhaps no other company has had as impactful an entry in India as Kia Motors. The Seltos has risen to be among the top-sellers in its segment with no signs of slowing down, and now the Kia Sonet has crossed 1 lakh sales, in just under 12 months! Now that should tell you just how impressive Kia’s opening innings in India has been.

Kia set up shop in India in 2019, and kick started its brand here with the Seltos, this was followed by the Carnival and then the Sonet. Pit against the likes of the Mahindra XUV300, Maruti-Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, and the soon-to-be-discontinued Ford Ecosport, the Kia Sonet proved to be an instant success despite the slowdown in the auto industry caused by the lockdown.

Mr. Tae-Jin Park, Executive Director and Chief Sales & Business Strategy Officer, Kia India, said, “The Sonet was launched when the auto industry was facing its worst slump in history with the advent of covid-19 pandemic. The market was battling rock bottom customer sentiment amidst manufacturing and supply chain setbacks. We introduced the Sonet in September last year against all odds, and it would not be an understatement to say that it has rewritten Kia’s success story in India and has made a stronghold in the segment with its industry-leading features and specifications. The one-fourth contribution of the iMT variant in the total sales testifies that the model has also revolutionised the adaption of new technologies.”

The reasons for the Kia Sonet’s success seem to be pretty clear. Design wise, the Kia Sonet looks aesthetically pleasing, and every bit an SUV despite falling under the 4 metre category. It literally spoils you for choice in every category. Engines? Choose from a range of three, including two petrols and one diesel. Transmissions? Four options on offer: a manual, an iMT, a DCT and a torque converter automatic! Equipment list? On the top-spec variants there are ventilated seats, a sunroof, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bose speakers and a lot more. Couple this with the fact that the Sonet shares a lot in common with the Hyundai Venue, and you have a car that is not just feature-packed but also one that is reliable and can be serviced fairly easily. If Kia keeps this momentum up, something tells us more such milestones might be on the way.
