Mahindra announces the Thar 700

Mahindra and Mahindra announced on June 17 that they will be selling the last 700 units of the Thar in its current form, and it will be called the Thar 700. The Thar 700 marks 70 years of Mahindra and the first car they built in India back in 1949.

The company is marketing the car as a ‘limited special edition’ and Mahindra will offer it in a new colour Aquamarine. Along with this, the Thar will be available with ABS, 5-spoke alloy wheels, a black finish on the grille, silver finish on the front bumper, leatherette upholstery on the front seats. There will also be the Thar emblem with Anand Mahindra’s (chairman-Mahindra group) signature on the side panel of the 4×4.

Powering the Thar 700 is the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder NEF TCI-CRDe engine that puts out 106bhp of power at 3,800rpm and 247Nm of torque at 1,800-2,000rpm.

Speaking on the special edition Thar 700, Veejay Ram Nakra, chief of sales and marketing, automotive division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “We are delighted to introduce the last 700 units of our iconic off-roader, Thar, in its current avatar. We believe that the enthusiasts will see it as their last chance to own a piece of this Mahindra legacy, as a must-have garage collectable. The Thar is clearly an extension of our 70 years’ legacy and what brand Mahindra stands for. Over the years, it has successfully shaped the lifestyle vehicle segment while being popular with the off-road tribe.”
