Mercedes-Benz India launches AMG GT-R and GT Roadster
Mercedes-Benz India has launched the AMG GT-R and the GT Roadster at Rs 2.23 crore and Rs 2.19 crore, both prices being ex-showroom. With the launch of these two cars, Mercedes now boasts an impressive 12 model lineup of AMGs, making it the widest portfolio of performance cars by any manufacturer in India.
The star of the launch, the AMG GT-R recently shattered the lap record for a production car at the Buddh International Circuit recently with a lap time of 2:09.853 minutes. Featuring rear wheel steering, a first in any AMG car, the GT-R is powered by a 4-litre V8 twin turbo petrol engine that puts out 577bhp at 6250 revs and 700Nm of peak torque from 1900 revs all the way through to 5500rpm. As a result of these phenomenal numbers, 0-100kmph comes up in just 3.6 seconds with the AMG GT-R going on to post a top speed of 318kmph.
Meanwhile, the topless beauty that is the AMG GT Roadster uses the same engine but in a different state of tune and produces a little less power and torque. Under the long bonnet of the GT-R Roadster the same 4-litre V8 bi turbo makes 470bhp at 6000rpm and 630Nm of torque from 1700 to 5000rpm. Consequently, acceleration and top speed is slightly lower at 4 seconds for a 0-100kmph run and 302kmph.
“We are excited to pursue the 50 years of AMG celebrations in India, and what better way to celebrate it than by introducing the beast of the green hell – the Mercedes-AMG GT-R and the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster,” said Roland Folger, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India at the launch of the two cars. “We are confident that these two sensational sportscars will entice Mercedes-AMG enthusiasts in India and redefine the performance motoring segment altogether,” he added.
