Renault has been in the Indian market for some time now, but wants to expand its reach and is hoping to double its sales by 2022. In this attempt to grow, they have designed a car-the Triber, which has been tailored to the needs of the Indian market and will launch in India first before being available globally.
The Triber will fall under the compact SUV/MPV category as it falls under the 4metre length bracket at 3990mm. Powering the car is a one-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 71bhp of power at 6250rpm and 96Nm of torque at 3500rpm.The MPV will be available in two transmission variants-a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed EASY R AMT (automatic) transmission. The car weighs in at 947kg (kerb).
One of the main features that Renault wants to draw attention to the different seating modes it has to offer. As mentioned earlier, the car can be configured to seat up-to seven people. The company has listed four modes, namely 1) Life mode: in this seat configuration, five people can be seated with sliding and reclining functionality. 2) Tribe Mode: As the name suggests the car in this seating configuration can seat seven people. 3) Surfing Mode: In this seating configuration the MPV can accommodate large objects like a surf board, etc. 4) Camping mode: The seating configuration makes for two people to be able to sit while the rest is available for use as desired.
The car will be equipped with an all-digital instrument cluster with an 8.9cm LCD that displays speed, trip and fuel consumption data. This LCD is framed by three virtual gauges that make up the tachometer, fuel gauge and engine temperature readout. Speaking of connectivity, the Triber comes with an 8inch multimedia touchscreen system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The MPV also comes with a smart access card which facilitates keyless entry and ignition.
The Triber, once launched in September, will be among the most affordable cars in India with the option to seat seven. Its sub-4metre length will allow Renault to price it very aggressively too. Renault is banking on the versatility of the Triber to be a major selling point and only time can tell if Renault really has a product on their hands that can turn out to be a game changer.
