Triumph Motorcycles India has launched the Black editions of the Bonneville T100 and T120. The T100 and T120 Black editions pay tribute to Triumph’s original 1959 Bonneville model. Therefore, the new Bonnies have been given a retro-design theme, inspired by their predecessors and will be the updated versions of the T100 and T120. As the name suggests both these bikes have undergone a dark treatment and can be had in any colour, as long as it is black. The T100 is offered in jet black and matte black finish whereas the T120 comes in jet black and matte graphite paint schemes, including blacked-out mirrors, rims and headlamps, while the T120 distinguishes itself with a dark brown seat.
The duo also features some unique elements as compared to the standard T100 and T120, such as a sloping fuel tank, tubular steel frame, rounded headlamps and turn indicators. They also get the semi-digital instrument console and LED headlamps.
Mechanically, both the bikes have no alterations as compared to the standard variants, and retain the characteristic triumph 270-degree firing order. The T100 is offered with a BS6-compliant liquid-cooled 900cc motor mated to a five-speed gearbox, churning out 54bhp and 80Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the T120 is offered with a BS6-compliant liquid-cooled 1200cc motor paired to a six-speed gearbox making 79bhp and 105Nm of torque.
As with most bikes in this segment, both the T100 and T120 come loaded with electronics, along with the usual ABS and switchable traction control. The bikes also get a torque assistive (slipper) clutch that reduces the clutch lever action for the rider making it easier to ride within the city traffic. As standard, the T120 features two riding modes — Rain and Road.
Both the bikes are placed under the Modern Classic range of the Triumph’s lineup and will cost slightly more than their regular variants. In India, the T100 goes up against the likes of the Kawasaki Z900 in terms of pricing, though its actual rival (considering the retro-theme) would be the Z900RS. The T120 will also go up against the likes of Brixton 1200 (made by Austria's KSR Group, which imports bikes from several Chinese manufacturers, including CF Moto) when the latter hits our shores.
