Ducati Desmo450 MX launched in India
Ducati’s first motocross bike arrives at ₹17.23 lakh

Ducati has officially entered the off-road segment in India with the launch of the all-new Desmo450 MX, marking a historic moment for the Italian brand. Known globally for its road-going performance machines and racing pedigree, Ducati is now stepping into the world of motocross with a motorcycle that brings its signature engineering to the dirt. Developed and tested in the highly competitive MXGP World Championship, the Desmo450 MX is Ducati’s first-ever production motocross bike — and it’s designed to cater to both professional riders and amateur enthusiasts looking to explore off-road riding.
Ducati Desmo450 MX's engine
At the heart of the Desmo450 MX is a 449.6cc single-cylinder engine, but what truly sets it apart is the use of Desmodromic valve actuation — a technology synonymous with Ducati’s high-performance motorcycles. This makes it the only bike in the motocross segment to feature this system. The result is a motor that delivers a broad and usable powerband, combining strong torque at low-to-mid revs with an impressive top-end. Ducati claims this makes the bike both fast and forgiving, allowing riders of varying skill levels to push harder with confidence.
Ducati Desmo450 MX's Electronics
Motocross bikes are typically known for their mechanical simplicity, but Ducati is changing that narrative. The Desmo450 MX introduces advanced electronics, including a highly sophisticated traction control system.
What makes it unique is its ability to accurately measure real-time rear wheel slip and intervene only when necessary. This ensures that the system enhances control without interfering with performance — a crucial balance in off-road riding where precision and feel are everything.
Ducati Desmo450 MX's Chassis
The Desmo450 MX features a lightweight aluminium frame designed with minimal welds. This construction not only improves structural rigidity but also enhances agility, making the bike more responsive on challenging terrain.
The overall package has been engineered to be powerful yet easy to ride, a combination that Ducati believes will appeal to both seasoned racers and newcomers to the sport.

He highlighted the growing interest in off-road motorcycling in India and emphasised that this motorcycle is aimed at expanding Ducati’s presence into a new segment, while also bringing a new generation of riders into the Ducati ecosystem.

The bigger picture
The Desmo450 MX isn’t just a new motorcycle — it’s the beginning of Ducati’s off-road journey. As the first model in what will be a broader range of specialist off-road machines, it signals a clear intent from Ducati to take its racing DNA beyond tarmac.
For India, this could be the start of something exciting. With motocross and off-road riding steadily gaining traction, Ducati’s entry into the segment adds a new layer of performance and technology — and raises the bar for what enthusiasts can expect from a dirt bike.
