Yamaha's first-ever electric scooter, EC-06 is co-developed with River Mobility

Yamaha has finally entered the Indian two-wheeler EV market with the EC-06 electric scooter. Its first electric scooter is launched at a price of ₹1.67 lakh. This new product traces Yamaha Motor India’s firm step in the direction of carbon-neutrality and aligning itself with India’s greater vision of accomplishing the goal of ‘Net-Zero’ emissions by 2070. Developed in collaboration with River Mobility, the EC-06 is manufactured in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The big highlights of the EC-06 include power output of 8.98bhp and claimed range of 169km, disc brakes at both ends along with IP67 and IP65 water and dust protection for the critical componentry. Yamaha EC-06 design

This latest offering from Yamaha features a vertically stacked LED headlight, that coupled with its flat sides give it a grown-up personality. The rear gets an LED tail light which has a twin-wireframe light signature. It is only available in a single ‘Bluish White’ colour option, with a matching blue pinstriping on the gloss black alloy wheels. It also gets a 24.5-litre underseat storage space.

Yamaha’s first electric scooter is equipped with an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) and a 4kWh fixed battery. It delivers a max output of 8.98bhp and 26Nm, with a 79kmph top speed. Yamaha claims that this scooter is capable of 169km of range and it takes about 8 hours to fully charge. Suspension duties at the front are taken care of by a telescopic fork and a coil spring setup at the rear.

It also gets 200mm disc brakes at the front and back. As for the features, it gets three riding modes — Eco, Standard and Power, an LCD instrument cluster and a Yamaha Motor Connect R companion app. Additionally, its motor and battery are rated with IP67 water and dust protection, whereas the rest of the components are protected with IP65 rating for the same.

Yamaha EC-06 price and availability

The EC-06 has been launched at ₹1.67 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Yamaha electric scooter will only be available in select cities and exclusively at Yamaha’s premium Blue Square showrooms. It also gets 3 years or 30,000 kilometres of battery warranty. The Yamaha EC-06 will be competing with the likes of TVS iQube S 3.5, priced at ₹1.39 lakh and Ather 450X, priced at ₹1.57 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
