The Vredestein Pinza AT tyres aim to make your luxury SUV even better at off-roading

Vredestein, the premium tyre brand from Apollo Tyres recently launched their Vredestein Pinza AT range of tyres in the country. The Pinza ATs cater to the luxury SUV segment and they have been developed over the course of five years with an extensive global testing regime. Exclusively manufactured in India, the Pinza ATs are exported to 40 countries including markets in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia, and are already being supplied to Mahindra & Mahindra in America for use in the Mahindra Roxor.

Designed by Giugiaro, these tyres offer a wider tread pattern and a more robust sidewall, and Vredestein they pack in superior off-road capability without compromising the on-road characteristics such as ride comfort or tyre noise. To put their claims to the test, we went mud-plugging in 4x4 SUVs at the Learn Offroad school on the outskirts of Mumbai. My choice of wheels for the day was a Ford Endeavour, with fellow enthusiast Kanad Kalasur being my instructor for the day. With low ratio engaged, we set off on the off-road course in the Endy, and despite the obstacles which included steep drops and ascents, axle articulation pits and a loose surface, the Pinza ATs were grippy throughout the course and allowed us to make short work of it.

Off-roading is all about traction, not outright speed or power, and the ability of putting the power down to the road better massively improved the off-road performance of the Endy. We also drove through a slush pit, and were left impressed by the capabilities of a 4x4 SUV shod with the Pinza AT tyres.

These tyres can be had in sizes ranging from 17-inches to 20-inches for luxury SUVs from the likes the Toyota Fortuner all the way up to SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler and the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. Accordingly, the prices of these tyres – starting from Rs 17,000 and going all the way up to Rs 21,100 – are on the premium end of the spectrum, being priced at 15-20 per cent premium compared to the equivalent tyre. But given the well-rounded package of the Vredestein Pinza AT tyres however, it would definitely make sense to upgrade to them to get the best out of your premium or luxury SUV be it on the tarmac or off it.
