The Fast and Furious series has been a franchise that has been loved by automotive enthusiasts because of the sheer display of beautiful machines. Before the new instalment of the series hits the theatres on May 19, we look at 10 iconic cars that made the franchise what it is today.

1970 Dodge Charger R/T (The Fast and the Furious)

It would be a crime not to include the 1970 Dodge Charger on this list. This is the car that won Dominic Toretto the street races. The 1970 Dodge Charger came with a 7.2-litre V8 engine that produced 390bhp and 655Nm of torque. The one used in the movie, however after all the mods done, is said to produce 900 horsepower.

Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 (2 Fast 2 Furious)

The Skyline GT-R R34 was a beast because of its raw performance and exceptional handling. The 2.6-litre, in-line six, twin-turbo engine generated 392Nm of torque and 276bhp of power. The RB26DETT, a 2.6-litre DOHC, 24-valve inline-six engine, powered the R34s in the movies, and it was force-fed by twin turbos.

2002 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII (2 Fast 2 Furious)

In 2 Fast 2 Furious, Brian O'Conner and Tej Parker drive a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII. The standard Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII has an inline-four turbocharged transverse front engine with a maximum torque of 383Nm and a maximum power output of 276 bhp. However, the power outputs of the Lancer used by the franchise are not known to us.

1966 Ford GT40 (Fast Five)

Developed and produced by the Ford Motor Company, the Ford GT40 is a high-performance endurance racing vehicle. Ford succeeded in winning the 1966 Le-Mans with the GT40. In the movie, the Le Mans winner ran a 7.0-litre V8 engine that produced a total of 478bhp of power and 674Nm of torque. Mia drives off from the train heist in ‘Fast Five, in a gorgeous blue and white 1965 Ford GT40.

1966 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Sting Ray (Fast Five)

Along with the Ford GT40, Mia, Brian, Dominic, and Vince planned to steal a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Sting Ray from the train in the film ‘Fast Five’. The Corvette used for the movie came with a custom-built 502 big-block engine and a four-speed transmission.

1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (The Fast and the Furious)

Mitsubishi Motors and Diamond-Star Motors collaborated to create the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse, a customised sports car. The Eclipse is driven by Brian O'Conner in the Fast and the Furious movie. This 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse has a 420a 16-valve dual overhead cam 2-litre 4-cylinder engine rated at 163bhp before the turbo.

Lykan HyperSport (Furious 7)

In the movie ‘Furious 7’ a billionaire prince in Abu Dhabi owned a Lykan HyperSport, which was stolen by Dom and Brian. At $3.4 million (₹27 crores excluding all taxes and charges), it is one of the priciest cars ever produced. The Lykan HyperSport came with a 3.7-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine producing 730bhp of power and 960Nm of torque. The one used by the franchise was the first and only Lykan HyperSport destroyed out of the seven produced.

1995 Supra MK4 (The Fast and the Furious)

In The Fast and the Furious movie, Brian O’Conner uses this car. The Toyota Supra MK4 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six engine known as the 2JZ-series, which is capable of generating up to 326bhp of power and about 440 Nm of torque. The Supra used by the franchise, however, is said to produce somewhere between 536bhp - 561bhp.

1967 Mustang Fastback (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift)

Sean Boswell drives the 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. The Mustang showcased in the movie was swapped with a Nissan 2.6 L RB26DETT twin-turbo inline-six twin cam 24-valve Skyline GT-R engine. This engine produced an output of 276bhp and 392Nm of torque in its stock form.

Veilside Mazda RX7 Fortune (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift)

The 1997 Mazda RX-7 VeilSide Fortune is a major car driven by Han Seoul-Oh and Sean Boswell in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Originally red, the RX-7 was imported via bond from Japan to the US. Orange House of Kolor paint was used on the bodywork. This RX7 had a 1.3-litre rotary engine and produced close to 300bhp of power and 347Nm of torque.

The RX-7 was only seen in a character film poster, for Fast & Furious 6, featuring Han and Gisele, though the vehicle itself is shown in a post credits sceneUniversal Pictures
