BMW has launched the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre M Edition in India at a price of Rs 68.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Built to celebrate 50 years of the German brand’s high performance M division, the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre M Edition is the first of the planned 10 ‘50 Jahre’ models that will make their way to Indian shores. It gets a few styling tweaks inside out, with a blackened theme, and just like ‘standard’ (if you can call it that) M340i, it will be locally assembled at BMW’s plant in Chennai.

BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre M Edition styling and interior:

The BMW M340i is one handsome car to begin with but the 50 Jahre M Edition, with its bespoke parts, is an even better looker. On the outside it gets a full chrome delete and a stealthy darkened theme. Available in two colours — Tanzanite Blue and Dravit Grey — elements exclusive to the 50 Jahre M Edition include a gloss black kidney grille, window surroundings and mirror caps in jet black and BMW’s new ‘50 Jahre M’ roundels at the front, rear, and on the wheel centre caps. Not to forget those oh-so-sexy 19-inch M light alloy wheels.

The blackened theme continues on the inside which also boasts BMW Individual elements. The sport seats are dressed in an M-specific upholstery in alcantara trim. The headliner wears a rather subtle anthracite shade and the interior trim gets piano black and BMW’s famed galvanic (silver) finishing.

What remains unchanged are the plethora of features that BMW offers with the M340i There’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, door sills with M340i xDrive lettering, ambient lighting, automatic three zone climate control system, 10.25-inch infotainment system with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. And lastly, thanks to the standard Harman Kardon sound system, music enthusiasts will have a blast.

Buyers have the option of choosing either Motorsport Pack or a Carbon Pack from BMW’s M Performance Accessories department. The Motorsport pack includes the likes of an M performance steering wheel, gear knob in Alcantara, and rear spoiler in matte black finish. The Carbon pack on the other hand makes use of a lot of carbon fibre, including a carbon fibre M performance steering wheel, gear knob and rear spoiler.

BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre M Edition engine:

Applauded by enthusiasts all over the country for its powerplant, which is a driver’s wild dream, the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre M Edition retains the 3-litre straight-six turbo-petrol engine which churns out 382bhp and 500Nm torque. The xDrive part in its moniker means this Bimmer sends power to all four of its wheels. Here through an eight-speed automatic transmission that makes a 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.4 seconds possible. A number which makes the M340i the quickest to 100kmph made-in-India car.

BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre M Edition price and rivals:

Priced at Rs 68.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre M Edition demands a slight premium over the regular M340i. And that is a given considering the added styling elements and changes to the interior. Moving on to rivals, the M340i has the Mercedes-AMG A35 and the Audi S5 in its crosshairs. Which one would you like to have in your garage? Tell us in the comments below! That said, we’ve already driven the M340i, and are super impressed at what it offers.
