The covers are finally off the Harley-Davidson X 440! Launched at an impressive price of ₹2.29 lakh, the Harley-Davidson X 440 represents the initial model from the renowned American motorcycle manufacturer, marking their foray into the entry-level segment and also serving as their inaugural product resulting from their partnership with Hero. The X 440 is Harley-Davidson’s first single-cylinder motorcycle since the SX 250 in 1978.

The X 440 showcases distinct design elements such as a round LED headlight that incorporates Harley-Davidson branding, a single-pod instrument cluster, and a flat handlebar. The taillight as well as the indicators are also provided as LED units, which add to its retro-style appeal. The X 440 has an 18-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel. The motorcycle's blacked-out parts, which include the motor and exhaust system, further improve its aesthetic appeal. Harley says that customers can opt for add-on accessories like a comfortable touring seat, backrest, bar end mirrors, bash plate, fog lamps, windscreen, and saddle bags.

The X 440 has a tubular trellis frame with preload-adjustable gas-filled twin shock absorbers at the rear while KYB USD 43mm dual cartridge forks handle the suspension duties at the front. This Harley-Davidson comes with a 320mm front disc that boasts to be the biggest in its class. The rear brakes are handled by a 240mm disc. The X 440 comes with a 13.5-litre tank and weighs a total of 190.5kg with a full tank of gas. The motorcycle features a dual-channel ABS system. With a ground clearance of 170mm and a seat height of 805mm, the motorcycle should be accessible for riders of most shapes and sizes. Additionally, the X440 comes with factory-fitted MRF Zapper Hyke tyres with a profile of 100/90-18 in the front and 140/70-17 at the rear.

Harley-Davidson X 440 powertrain

The X 440 is equipped with a two-valve, oil-cooled 440cc single-cylinder engine that produces 27bhp at 6,000rpm and peak torque of 38Nm at 4,000rpm. Harley-Davidson says that the motorcycle makes 90% of its peak torque at as low as 2000rpm. The motorcycle is mated to a six-speed transmission unit and comes with an assist and slipper clutch.

Harley-Davidson X 440 features

The X 440 is available in three different variants, each with its own distinct features and styling options. The Denim edition comes with spoke wheels and is offered in a Mustard paint colour. The Vivid edition offers two dual-tone schemes: Metallic Thick Red and Metallic Dark Silver, and it comes with alloy wheels. The S variant stands out with a Denim Black colour tone, 3D branding, and premium finishes. It is equipped with machined alloy wheels, gold accents on engine and body parts, and machined engine fins, and includes the 'Connect 2.0' package, providing additional connectivity features.

The 3.5-inch TFT Display shows information like a real-time mileage indicator, range display, gear indicator, speedometer, L/R turn indication, high beam indicator, ABS alert, side stand alert, service indication, low fuel indication, neutral position indicator, and check engine light indication. On the X 440 S variant, the motorcycle also comes with smartphone features, which include turn-by-turn navigation, music control, accepting and rejecting calls, phone battery status, missed call alert, message alert and network strength

Harley-Davidson X 440 prices and rivals

Harley-Davidson has launched its first made-in-India motorcycle, the X 440 with a price tag of ₹2.29 lakh for the Denim variant, ₹2.49 lakh for the Vivid variant, and ₹2.69 lakh for the S variant. This motorcycle will compete with the likes of Royal Enfield’s Classic 350, the Jawa and Yezdi 300s, and also the Triumph 400cc twins that were unveiled recently.
