Pravaig Defy electric SUV launched at Rs 39.5 lakh

The Pravaig Defy electric SUV boasts a claimed range of 500km

Bengaluru-based auto startup, Pravaig, has launched its first electric SUV, the Defy at Rs 39.5 lakh, ex-showroom. The Defy gets a dual-motor setup and all-wheel-drive as standard and it is also available in a more off-road focussed version dubbed the ‘Veer’, for military use. Bookings for the Defy are now open on Pravaig’s official website for Rs 51,000 and deliveries are slated for Q3 2023.

Pravaig Defy styling

The Pravaig Defy gets a very minimalist styling that's in line with the brand’s first vehicle, the Extinction Mk1 electric sedan which was showcased almost two years ago. It features an sharp front-end with cuts that give it a butch stance. It gets slim LED headlights and tail lights with a full-width LED light bar at the rear. At the side, the Pravaig gets a prominent shoulder line that spans the full width of the SUV and a ducktail type spoiler at the rear. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and also gets optional aero covers, which, according to the brand, should add up to 10km or more range. The Defy also gets a massive 234mm ground clearance and 900mm water fording capability. Pravaig is offering the Defy with nine exterior colour options and five interior trim options.

Pravaig Defy interior and features

While Pravaig hasn’t revealed the interiors of the Defy yet, it has revealed some details about it. Taking centre stage in the Defy’s interior will be a massive 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen. It will also get a panoramic sunroof and the option to upholster its interior in no less than three eco-friendly materials. The Defy will get 5G connectivity and also a surround sound music system from the French brand Phantom Opera. The car will get Pravaig’s own User Interface, dubbed the MultiFace which the brand claims will be smooth and free of glitches. The UI will support Apple CarPlay connectivity as well. The system will also get OTA updates. Moreover the SUV will also feature ambient lighting, an air filter and captain seats at the back as an option, apart from its standard five-seat layout and all the seats will have electric adjustment and cooling function.

Pravaig Defy architecture, battery and range

The Defy is underpinned by Pravaig’s skateboard platform. It gets a large 90.9kWh battery and a dual electric motor setup which makes possible all-wheel-drive. The setup produces 402bhp and 620Nm of peak power. It propels the Defy from 0 to 100kmph in just 4.9 seconds. Pravaig says that the Defy is capable of over 500km on a single charge. It supports 150kWh fast charging with 0 to 80 per cent charging in 30 minutes. On a standard 7kWh home charger the SUV will take about 8 hours to be fully charged. The battery life is quoted at 2.5 lakh kilometres as well. The Defy will have a top whack of 210kmph.

Pravaig Defy price and rivals

The Pravaig Defy is priced at Rs 39.5 lakh, ex-showroom. If you look at its power figures it is on par with the Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace and it undercuts all three of these luxury SUVs by almost 70 lakhs. But Pravaig isn't branding the Defy as a luxury SUV and as a result it doesn't have any direct rivals as such. Deliveries for the Defy will begin in April 2023 and Pravaig has opened bookings for its first ever e-SUV for Rs 51,000 on their official website online. The brand says it will sell the Defy through Pravaig’s authorised partners and will service at over 3400 pin codes across the country.
