The brand-spanking Tata Altroz iCNG is up for bookings

The twin-cylinder CNG technology is eye-opening for the industry

Tata unveiled the Altroz iCNG hatchback at the Auto Expo 2023 to demonstrate a solution to the highly questioned topic of lower boot space in CNG cars. Now, the carmaker has officially commenced bookings for the Altroz iCNG, which could be the most practical CNG car in India. At just Rs.21,000, you can now book this premium hatchback online or at your nearest authorised Tata dealership. Here’s what this new alternative-fuel-run hatchback brings to the table -

The Altroz iCNG’s USP is the dual CNG cylinders instead of a single one, something that has been an industry standard for years. Tata calls it the ‘Innovative Twin Cylinder Technology’, but it is essentially out of the need to free up boot space. A large CNG tank can occupy the entire boot of a hatchback or a compact sedan. Tata instead came up with the idea of placing two 30 litre CNG cylinders parallel to each other under the boot’s floor. It holds a total of 60 litres of capacity (30 litres per cylinder). The placement of the cylinders is thought well, and are placed transversely so that you can place your luggage over them.

In addition to the above innovative solution, there is a ‘Single Advanced ECU’, which will ensure a driving experience that is smoother. Also, you can directly start the Altroz iCNG in CNG mode instead of switching the fuel mode on the go. In our recent article about the common myths associated with CNG cars, we mentioned how the cylinders go through various stress tests to ensure longevity over time. To strengthen the statement, we are happy to let you know that the new Altroz iCNG will be equipped with safety features such as thermal incident protection, detection against gas leakage, and a feature called a micro switch that will shut off the ignition when refuelling.

The Altroz iCNG will be made available in four variants: XE, XM+, XZ and XZ+. In addition, there will be four colour options to choose from: Opera Blue, Downtown Red, Arcade Grey and Avenue White. Tata also promises a 3-year/ 100,000 km warranty for the Altroz iCNG. The deliveries of this CNG-powered premium hatchback will initiate in May 2023. With the Altroz iCNG, the automaker is planning to expand the acceptance of alternative fuel and it shows.
