The Volkswagen Tiguan is all set to re-enter the Indian market after a brief hiatus. Earlier this year, Volkswagen had promised four SUVs, or SUVWs for India. The T-Roc and Tiguan AllSpace have already been sold out, while the Taigun marked a new beginning for Volkswagen in India under the India 2.0 project. Assembly of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan has commenced at the Aurangabad plant, and it is expected to be launched on December 7.

What has changed this time around?

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan has come back in a facelifted avatar, but it still carries the VW theme of understated styling with not too many shouty elements. On the front, the new Tiguan receives a new four-slat chrome grille and the headlights have been slightly altered. The 18-inch wheels have been retained, but they now receive new Frankfurt-design alloy wheels. Things might not be very different from the rear, but the tail lamps have been slightly altered as well.

Talking about the powertrain, the Volkswagen Tiguan loses out on the 2-litre TDI engine, which has been replaced by a 2-litre TSI, producing 187bhp and 320Nm of torque. The turbo-petrol engine is paired to a 7-speed DSG gearbox and it receives all-wheel drive as standard.

Speaking of equipment, the 2022 new Tiguan comes with the Volkswagen Intelligent IQ lighting system which includes cornering headlamps, bending, and off-road modes for the same. There’s also a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting with 30 colours to choose from, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, three-zone automatic climate control with touch sliders, an updated touchscreen infotainment system, connected car features, electrically-adjustable driver seat with three-way memory, smart tailgate, and a sliding rear bench among others.

Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. said, “We are committed to continuously providing our customers with the best of technology and exciting products from Volkswagen Group and the introduction of the new Tiguan is a testament to the same. The SUVW has been a global best-seller and a flagship model for brand Volkswagen. We are extremely delighted to bring back the 5-seater Tiguan for the Indian market and are confident that the product will meet the unceasing demand for a sharp, elegant and robust SUV in the segment.”
