The Indian Racing Festival weekend in Coimbatore kicked off on an action-packed note;
Round 3 of the Indian Racing Festival is taking place at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore
Round 3 of the Indian Racing Festival kicked off this weekend at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, and the first day of the race weekend included exciting performances by the racers in three different categories – the Indian Racing League (IRL), the Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC) and the LGB Formula 4 races. Read on for a closer look at the standings and all the action from the first day of the race weekend.
Kyle Kumaran’s win at Coimbatore marked his and the team’s first victory of the season
Indian Racing League
Kyle Kumaran, the ‘A’ driver for the Kichcha’s Kings Bangalore team put in a flawless drive and led the IRL race from start to finish and went on to win the IRL Driver A race at Kari Motor Speedway. Kumaran’s win at Coimbatore marked his and the team’s first victory of the season. Kumararan wasn’t the only driver from Kichcha’s Kings Bangalore to end up on the podium, with teammate Neel Jani keeping up the pressure on the other racers and claiming third place, helping secure a double podium for the team. Jani had started the race at the back of the pack in seventh place and he used a combination of aggressive driving and sheer determination to end up on the podium. Akhil Rabindra of the Hyderabad Black Birds finished the IRL Driver A race in second place.
Itsuki Sato of the Ahmedabad Apex Racers won the F4IC in his debut race
Formula 4 Indian Championship
Moving to the F4IC, Itsuki Sato of the Ahmedabad Apex Racers managed to surprise everyone at Kari Motor Speedway with his performance. The Japanese racer, who was making his debut in India ended up winning Race 1 of the F4IC with a pole-to-chequered-flag run. Sato was followed by Ghazi Motlekar of the Kolkata Royal Tigers who finished the race in second place, with Saishiva Sankaran of Speed Demons Delhi completing the podium for the F4IC category.
Mehul Agarwal put in an impressive performance and won both the LGB Formula 4 races of the weekend
JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship LGB Formula 4
Asserting his dominance in the LGB Formula 4 category was Mehul Agarwal of Dark Don Racing, who clinched victories in both the LGB Formula 4 races which took place on Day 1 of the race weekend. Finishing behind Agarwal in both races was Dhruvh Goswami of MSport. Completing the podium for Race 1 was Agarwal’s teammate Aditya Patnaik. Race 2 was halted briefly due to an on-track incident and restarted after a red flag. Diljith T S of Dark Don Racing finished the second LGB Formula 4 race of the weekend in third place.
