BSA Motorcycles have unveiled two new bikes, the Scrambler 650 and the Bantam 350. The Scrambler is based on the Gold Star 650 sold in India, noticeable changes being a shorter upswept exhaust pipe and larger front wheel size. The Scrambler 650 also gets shorter off-road style mudguards as opposed to the Gold Star’s full-chrome mudguards. The Bantam 350 is the second bike, which is essentially a rebadged Jawa 42 FJ or even Yezdi Roadster save for a shorter single exhaust pipe, they share everything from the platform to the engine.
BSA Scrambler 650
The Scrambler 650 shares its 652cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC engine with the Gold Star in India. It produces 44bhp at 6500rpm and 55Nm at 4000rpm. It is mated to a five-speed transmission with a slip-and-assist clutch. The front suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork with 41mm of travel. At the rear, it gets twin shock absorbers with a five-step adjustable preload. The Scrambler 650 has a seat height of 820mm.
This bike is equipped with Brembo brakes with 320mm disc at the front and a 255mm disc at the rear. As for the wheels and tyres — it gets 36 wire-spoke wheels, 19-inch at the front and 17-inch rear wheel shod in Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres. There’s a 12-litre fuel tank. The Scrambler also gets dual-channel ABS and comes in three colours — Thunder Grey, Raven Black and Victor Yellow.
BSA Bantam 350
The Bantam 350 also has its derivatives in India, namely the Jawa 42 FJ and the Yezdi Roadster. It is powered by a 334cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC engine that makes 29bhp at 7750rpm and 30Nm at 6000rpm. It comes with a six speed gearbox and gets dual-channel ABS.
The suspension at the front is a telescopic hydraulic fork with 135mm of travel, whereas the rear gets twin shock absorbers which have 100mm of travel and also get a five-step adjustable preload. The seat height is set at 800mm. The Bantam gets a 13-litre fuel tank and comes in five colours — Avalon Grey, Oxford Blue, Firecracker Red, Barrel Black and Victor Yellow.
These bikes have been unveiled in the UK as of now. However, the Scrambler 650 is expected to be made available in India in the future.
