Kinetic DX Electric Scooter launched at ₹1.11 lakh

Kinetic Engineering Ltd. (KEL) has revived their iconic model Kinetic DX with the launch of the DX Electric in two variants;

The Kinetic DX Electric comes in two variants and has an estimated IDC range of 116km.

Kinetic DX has made a comeback as an electric scooter. Kinetic Engineering Ltd. (KEL) has launched the DX Electric scooter in two variants, and five colour options from the original DX from the ’80s. The new Kinetic electric scooter comes with LFP battery instead of a NMC which is the go-to battery type in the EV scooter industry. It also brings various throwback style elements in this new Alessandro Tartarini design.

Kinetic DX Electric design

This electric scooter has a metal body construction and a similar design just like its namesake from 40 years ago. Other throwback style details include a front visor with illuminated lettering, an elongated LED headlight flanked by the Kinetic ‘Raptor’ logo inspired LED turn indicators. At the rear, it gets an LED tail lamp with brand lettering within it. It has a ground clearance of 165mm. There are five colours to choose from for the top variant — Red, Blue, White, Black and Silver. The base variant gets a choice of only two colours — Black and Silver.

Kinetic DX Electric features

There’s an 8.8-inch colour instrument cluster screen designed to emulate the very ’80s, retro-futuristic gauge cluster from the original DX. Below the display lies a flip opening lid which houses the ‘Easy Key’ number pad which is used to unlock the scooter for riding. The glove box area at the front has an ‘Easy Charger’ which has a retractable charging cable, next to it resides a built-in speaker that is for voice alerts and music. The DX Electric has a 704mm long seat, with 37 litres of under-seat storage. Kinetic claims It can hold one full-face helmet and one half-face helmet at the same time. It gets a one-touch deploy button for the pillion foot rests. The handlebar has physical keypads on both sides. The left pad has toggles for the head light functions, turn indicators and horn. While the right pad has controls for reverse, riding modes and cruise control. It also gets a hill hold function. Additionally, it gets various connected features called ‘Telekinetics’ like remote start, geo-fencing, intruder alert, ‘Find My Kinetic,’ ‘My Kiney Companion’ voice alerts and Bluetooth connectivity for music and voice based navigation. It gets a dedicated button for ‘Kinetic Assist’ which is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) helpline.

Kinetic DX Electric battery, performance and range

The DX Electric comes with a 2.6kWh LFP battery which boasts of lasting for 2500 to 3500+ cycles. It also has a 60V electric system. There’s a hub-mounted motor which has a peak output of 6.4bhp. The DX is capable of a top speed of 90kmph. It has 12-inch wheels with 220mm front disc brake and 130mm drum brake at the rear. It gets three riding modes — Range, Power and Turbo Mode. The DX Electric is rated for an IDC estimated range of 116km aided by features like ‘K-Coast’ regenerative braking and cruise control.

Kinetic DX Electric price and rivals

There are two variants of the Kinetic Electric scooter — DX (base variant) is priced at ₹1.11 lakh and DX+ (top variant) is priced at ₹1.17 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom). It comes with a 3 years or 30,000km warranty and 9 years or 1,00,000km extended warranty. It will have rivals such as Bajaj Chetak electric, Ather Rizta, TVS iQube, Hero Vida VX1 and VX2.
