The Kawasaki KLX230 is now made in India and is available at a starting price of ₹1.99 lakh.

Kawasaki has launched the made-in-India KLX230 and the KLX230R S off-road bikes at ₹1.99 lakh and ₹1.94 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. At this price point, the off-roader is a lot better poised to take the battle to rivals like the Hero Xpulse 210. Here’s a look at what these off-road bikes offer.

Kawasaki KLX230 design, engine and equipment

The KLX230 was already a well-packaged bike with its robust and off-road oriented design, but retains on-road riding essentials like the headlights and taillights. It gets the same 233cc air-cooled, four-stroke single-cylinder engine as before, but in the localised bike, it makes a little more oomph with power and torque going up to 18.7bhp at 7800rpm and 19Nm at 6200rpm. Mated to a six-speed gearbox along with an electric starter. It gets 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels wrapped in dual-purpose tyres. Suspension-wise, there’s a front telescopic fork with 220mm of wheel travel and Uni Trak rear suspension with 223mm of wheel travel and adjustable preload. The ground clearance is 255mm and the seat height is set at 880mm. Additionally, it has a KX-style flat seat and an ergonomic perimeter frame. Technology-wise, it comes equipped with single-channel ABS (front-wheel only), an all-digital instrument cluster that houses the speedometer, odometer, dual trip meter, fuel gauge, clock and indicators. Basically, everything that it requires to be road legal. The KLX230 has a kerb weight of 139kg. It comes in a choice of two colour schemes — ‘Lime Green’ and ‘Battle Grey/Bright White/Ebony’.

The made-in-India KLX230 is slightly more powerful and makes 18.7bhp at 7800rpm and 19Nm at 6200rpm.

Kawasaki KLX230R S design, engine and equipment

It draws its looks from Kawasaki’s KX motocross machines, purpose-built for trailing and does away with front and rear lights. It brings a sleek overall build with a flat seat and shrink wrapped body panels to aid free movement of the rider. Powered by a 233cc air-cooled, fuel-injected, produces 18.7bhp at 7800rpm and 19.1Nm at 6200rpm. The four-stroke, SOHC single-cylinder engine is mated to a six-speed transmission with electric start. It gets 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels shod in competition-spec off-road tyres. The KLX230R S comes with a 240mm front disc and a 220mm disc brake at the rear. It has a ground clearance of 270mm and the seat height is set at 900mm. As for suspension, there’s a telescopic fork with 220mm wheel travel and a Uni Trak rear suspension with adjustable preload and 223mm of travel. It has a kerb weight of 129kg. The KLX230R S is only offered in a ‘Lime Green’ colour scheme.

The KLX230R S has the same engine as the KLX230, but is not road legal; no front and rear lights,  and no ABS results in a kerb weight of 129kg.

Kawasaki KLX230 and KLX23OR S price and availability

The KLX230 starts at a new price of ₹1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Whereas, the newly introduced KLX230R starts at ₹1.94 lakh (ex-showroom). The deliveries for both the Kawasaki bikes commence from the first week of October, 2025. At this significantly reduced price, the KLX230 and the KLX230R S make a much stronger case for themselves, bringing a whole new set of riders to Kawasaki dealerships.
