Hyundai Venue Great India Drive blog: Day 4

Afzal Rawuther

Day four of the Hyundai Great India Drive began as we explored Guwahati for everything great about Assamese football culture. Starting early, we caught up with the North East Futsal league and had an enlightening conversation about Football in the North East. The organisers of the league then took us to the local grounds in the heart of Guwahati where we witnessed several budding players go about their training drills.

Soon after we headed to Shillong. However, slow moving traffic halted our progress through Guwahati. The Venue's DCT made our job easier and even after close to an hour of driving through rush hour traffic, we were hardly tired.

On the Shillong Highway

The drive to Shillong put us on a spectacular highway that meanders through the rolling hills that is Meghalaya. The dual-lane carriageway is a joy to drive on and the neutral handling of the Venue allowed us to enjoy our time behind the wheel. Aiding us was the DCT shifting at just the right time.

The 1.0-turbo petrol engine of the Venue had loads of grunt on tap and we could easily overtake slower moving vehicles on the highway. The highway narrowed down and we were met with a huge number of tourists making their way to Shillong. The traffic as a result ensured that it took us at least an hour more. But, the stunning views and the chilly weather was worth the drive.

Tomorrow, we make our way to Silchar on the way to Imphal. But before that we will explore, the beautiful landscape of Meghalaya as we try to learn more about the footballing culture of the North East.
