BMW India is all set to launch the updated 7 Series as well as the new BMW X7 on July 25. While the 7 Series will compete with the Mercedes Benz S-Class and the Audi A8, the X7, which will be the brand’s flagship SUV will go up against the likes of the Mercedes GLS, Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7.

What will they be like from the outside?

Being BMW’s range-topping SUV, the X7 takes many cues from the X5 and then cranks the dial. The grille, already an imposing piece of kit, which BMW calls the “the biggest kidney grille in BMW history.”

Meanwhile, the 7 Series, which takes cues from the 2014 Vision Future Luxury Concept, has, as the brand says, a 40 per cent larger air dam, flanked by sleek laser lights. The car now sits higher, which, combined with the redesigned rear, gives it solid road presence.

What’s under the hood?

Both the X7 as well as the 7 Series will be offered with either the three-litre petrol or diesel engines. That said, the X7 will get a 340bhp turbo-charged inline-six petrol or a 265bhp inline-six diesel, whereas the 7 Series will also get a V8 engine that now produces 530bhp which is 80 more than the outgoing model, with the diesel variants now getting up to four (yes, four) turbochargers and the range-topping variant slated to make 400bhp!

Finally, the 7 Series will also get a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol-electric hybrid (available at a later date) which will make 349bhp (combined) and 265Nm with a 55km electric-only range that propels the car from 0-10 in 5.1 seconds.
