Honda Jazz Hybrid revealed at Tokyo Motor Show
Honda Motor Company reveals the next gen Hybrid version of their iconic hatchback, the Jazz. Also revealed is the ‘Crosstar’ variant of the Jazz which also features the same tech. The next generation Jazz Hybrid will feature a two-motor hybrid system, a technology that Honda calls e:HEV. The technology aims to deliver refinement and increase the efficiency of the vehicle.
Design and structure
The Jazz will be the first vehicle in Honda’s portfolio to feature the e:Technology which will be seen in all the future Honda models. The company’s goal is to feature electric powertrains in all its European models by 2020. The new Jazz Hybrid has a clean, seamless design philosophy – Follows the key concepts of function and beauty. The hatchback gets a slimmer A-pillar compared to the previous generation so as to improve visibility. The sleek A-pillar design is enabled by greatly improved torsional rigidity and new structural technologies that move impact stress towards the front quarter light pillars.
Seen on the side of the car, are the natural, sleek lines along with sharper, more prominent fenders and wheels arches that give it a broader stance. The rear design of the car echoes the clean lines at the front, with a new horizontal light cluster layout and roof spoiler.
Jazz Crosstar
Along with the Jazz, Honda has also revealed the ‘Crosstar’ version with the same Hybrid powertrain and features. What tells them apart is the increased ride height, a unique front grille design, water-resistant upholstery and integrated roof rails.
Interior
The new Jazz features the same comfort and spacious interiors as the previous model. The interior design complements the exterior with a clean, uncluttered dashboard and user friendly instrument panel. It also feature wider, body-stabilizing front seats and rear-seats that have a thicker rear seat pad that provides greater comfort for passengers. The thin A-pillar design improves horizontal visibility comfort for occupants, with the abundance of natural light through the expansive windscreen and front quarter lights serving to enhance the sense of spaciousness in the cabin.
Sales of the next-generation Honda Jazz for European markets is set to start in mid-2020.
