Kia has launched the electric version of its MPV, the Kia Carens Clavis, and prices for the Carens Clavis EV start from ₹17.99 lakh. The Carens Clavis EV can be had with two battery pack options as well as two motor options, and the MPV will be manufactured at Kia’s Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh, making this their first made-in-India EV.

In terms of the design and styling, the Kia Carens Clavis EV remains largely unchanged from the ICE version, save for the panel on the nose behind which the charging port resides. It continues to get 17-inch alloy wheels, but they now feature a new design, featuring a machined dual-tone finish. The Carens Clavis EV can be had in a choice of six colours — Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Aurora Black Pearl, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, and Ivory Silver Matte.
The styling remains identical to the ICE version with the exception of the new dual-tone machined face 17-inch alloy wheels.

Step inside and the basic interior layout of the Clavis EV is similar to that of the ICE-powered version. In terms of the features, the Kia Carens Clavis EV gets features such as a 26.62-inch dual panoramic screen for the infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster, paddles behind the steering wheel to control the regeneration levels, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, a powered driver’s seat, ventilation for the front seats, a panoramic sunroof, an i-Pedal (single-pedal) driving mode, one-touch electric tumble for the second row of seats and Level 2 ADAS along with six airbags and roll over sensors. The Carens Clavis EV brings some additional EV-specific features like IP67-certified dustproofing and waterproofing along with a liquid-cooled thermal management system for the battery pack. It also gets active air flaps that aid in aerodynamics as well as battery cooling, Vehicle to Load (V2L) capability via both internal and external power sockets. The Carens Clavis EV boasts of 90 advanced connected features such as a configurable V2L discharging limit and a charge completion notification among others. Customers will also have access to over 11,000 charging points across the country via the MyKia app.

The Kia Carens Clavis EV comes with a choice of two single motor options – a 133bhp (99kW) and a 169bhp (126kW), and both motors produce 255Nm of torque. This EV has four levels of regenerative braking and it is offered with two battery pack options – a 42kWh battery pack with a range of 404km (ARAI-certified MIDC full) and a 51.4kWh battery pack with a range of 490km (ARAI-certified MIDC full). The batteries are capable of being charged from 10 to 80 per cent of charge in just 39 minutes, when using a 100kW DC charger. The Clavis EV with the 51.4kWh battery pack can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 8.4 seconds (claimed).

Prices for the Kia Carens Clavis EV start from ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level HTK Plus variant with the 42kWh battery pack, and the prices go up to ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec Carens Clavis EV ER HTX Plus variant with the 51.4kWh battery pack. This electric MPV is offered in four variants with only a 7-seat configuration.
