The Toyota Century Coupe was unveiled at Japan Mobility Show 2025

Toyota unveiled the Century Coupe at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 and it marks a new era for the nameplate, which was once reserved for the Toyota sedan that was the pinnacle of luxury for its time. More recently, the nameplate also made its presence on an SUV, and with the unveil of the Century Coupe, Toyota is positioning the Century sub-brand as an ultra-luxury nameplate that will rival the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

Toyota Century Coupe styling

The Century Coupe is finished in an amber shade and the body silhouette is more two-door SUV coupe than what the name Coupe might suggest. At the front, you get an upright stance and split LED headlamps, along with a honeycomb-patterned body-coloured grille. Move to the side and the Century Coupe gets black 10-spoke alloy wheels and red brake callipers, with the door trims getting a gloss black cladding. There are no visible ORVMs on the Coupe, nor is there a rear windshield, and as you move towards the rear, the tail lamps feature a split layout similar to the headlights. The overall design is very futuristic and it is a similar approach to what we’ve seen employed on luxury concept cars like the Jaguar Type 00.

Toyota Century Coupe interior

The interior of the Century Coupe is revealed by the sliding doors and the cabin layout is minimalist yet radical. The dashboard features an instrument cluster flanked by a smaller screen on each side, a yoke-style steering wheel, and in a daring move, Toyota has chosen not to offer a front passenger seat on the Century Coupe, to offer the rear passenger a lot more legroom – emphasising on its focus towards the chauffeur-driven luxury segment. The rear seat also swivels, which will enable easier ingress and egress. The cabin features what appears to be a setup of diagonal laser beams which run from the headliner to the centre console, and there’s plenty of ambient lighting along the cabin.

No rear windshield on the Century Coupe

In terms of the powertrain, it is likely that the Century Coupe will be powered by the plug-in hybrid powertrain from the Century SUV. Toyota has not yet revealed when it will be launching the Century Coupe, but it could help Toyota flourish in the ultra-luxury segment and act as a halo car for the brand globally, just like the Lexus brand has done for the Japanese carmaker.
