Kia’s mid-size SUV for India – Sketches revealed

South Korea’s second-largest automobile manufacturer, Kia is all set for its entry into the Indian market. Kia have revealed design sketches of their mid-size SUV, codenamed the SP2i that they have planned as their first product for the Indian market, scheduled to be launched by the end of 2019.

The upcoming compact SUV is based on the SP-Concept will feature a distinct design language crafted for the millennial, which as Kia states is new to the Indian automobile industry. While the sketches only reveal the exterior lines and overall design of the car, it is said to offer decent space and boast SUV-like features in a compact yet capable package.

Bold, distinctive and dynamic

Kia’s soon to-be launched mid-size SUV will showcase modern design elements carefully borrowed from the Kia SP Concept which was unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo. The images reveal characteristics distinct to Kia’s design philosophy such as the unique Tiger nose grill . Crafted to appeal to the millennial, the mid-size SUV will boast of a design much like a bigger, more expensive SUV.

The exterior design details feature a long hood, a strong character line on the front bumper and sharp, sleek lines running all throughout the bodywork. Adding to the SUV-like structure is the strong shoulder lines and a rear windshield that tapers towards the rear of the car. The rear bumper has been given a chrome muffler effect along with a muscular diffuser.

“We have created a car which stands out everywhere, from the city to the countryside. Its robust yet sporty design will be matched by a wide range of features and technologies that are universally suited to younger buyers in markets around the world. Our new mid-SUV is a proposition that no other car in its class will match.” Says Byung Chul Juh, the Head of Kia Styling at Kia Motors Corporation.

The LED headlamps extend over the tiger nose grill and sport a three-dimensional light graphic and a highly technical diamond pattern at their trailing edges, which is also seen in the LED tail-lamps.
