KTM launches the RC125 ABS in India at Rs 1.47 lakh

After teasing the launch a few days back, KTM has silently launched the RC125 ABS in India at an introductory price of Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 125 Duke’s faired sibling takes on the likes of Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 and the recently updated Suzuki Gixxer SF which are priced at Rs 1.39 lakh and Rs 1.09 lakh respectively (both ex-showroom, Delhi).

What’s new in the KTM RC 125?

The RC 125 is available in two colour options. The chassis is painted black instead of the typical KTM orange. Unlike the international model, we do not get the side slung end can.

The RC 125 ABS is powered by the same liquid-cooled, 124.7cc, single-cylinder motor developing 14.3bhp at 9250rpm and 12Nm at 8000rpm, as the current 125 Duke. The DOHC motor is a typical high-strung motor from KTM delivering power at the top of the rev range.

Continuing with the tradition, the components are carried from the RC 200. From the 300mm – 230 mm disc setup to the suspension and the trellis frame are straight from the RC 200. Even the single-channel ABS unit is borrowed from the RC 200. Fuel tank capacity is low at 9.5 litres. The bike is on the heavier side though, weighing 154.2 kg (Dry).

The price is introductory and is expected to go up in a couple of months, just like the 125 Duke. Ever since its launch, the 125 Duke has undergone two price revisions. From the introductory price of Rs 1.18 lakh, the price has now shot up to Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showrroom, Delhi). Can the bike justify its price, considering well-established rivals in the picture like the YZF-R15 V3.0 that produces more power, gets dual-channel ABS and is cheaper? Only a ride can tell.
