The eighth-generation Lexus ES has been revealed at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show in China. The luxury sedan has received completely new styling, a new interior and more tech. It boasts four powertrain options, including two all-electric variants which claim to offer over 600km of driving range. Based on Lexus' newly developed TNGA GA-K platform, the car has also grown in size, with a longer wheelbase and claims to be the most comfortable ES yet. Here's more:

2025 Lexus ES styling and interior

The new ES takes strong design inspiration from the LF-ZC concept. Up front, it gets a sharp DRL plus turn indicator setup, sitting under which are the car's headlights. It gets a two-part grille separated by the license plate area. The electric ES omits the upper grille for a cleaner design, and to aid aerodynamics. In profile the ES gets sharp shoulder line which flows into the C-pillar. It has flush-fit door handles and a distinct styling element on the front door -- a vent which you'd find on high-end sports cars. The car gets dual-tone alloy wheels, with sizes ranging from 18- to 21-inches . At the rear, there's a pair of sleek wrap-around LED tail lights connected by a lightbar. This bar also houses an illuminated Lexus badge at its centre.
On the inside, the ES has recieved a complete overhaul, with a new dash and new screens. Taking centre stage is a large 14-inch floating infotainment touchscreen, but if that wasn't enough for you, there's also a similarly sized passenger screen. The car has a new three-spoke steering wheel which sits in front of a 12.3-inch digital cluster. There's also something really cool in the new ES, hidden touch buttons on the dashboard which come to life when you switch on the car.
On the feature front, you get wireless charging, a Mark Levinson surround sound system, and front seats with a ‘boss mode’ that lets the rear passenger adjust the front passenger seat. In the back, there are reclining seats with a super plush ottoman function—perfect for long drives. Safety’s equipment includes the Lexus Safety System+ offering adaptive cruise control, pre-collision alerts, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warnings, apart from 10 airbags, ABS and traction control.

2025 Lexus ES powertrain options

The new Lexus ES gets the option of four powertrains, which include two hybrid engines with three different power outputs and, for the first time, two all-electric variants.

On the hybrid front, the ES 300h will be offered with two engine options: a 2-litre four-cylinder mill with either 194bhp or 198bhp. The ES 350h, on the other hand, gets a bigger 2.5-litre mill making 244bhp. Both engines come mated to an eCVT and can be had in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Lexus hasn’t given away any details of the hybrid batteries.

With the be electric ES, buyers will be able to choose between two versions: the 350e, packing a 221bhp single-motor on the front axle, and the punchier 550e, putting out 338bhp with all-wheel drive. Range looks impressive too—up to 685km for the 350e and 610km for the 550e (both tested on China’s CLTC cycle). Lexus hasn’t confirmed battery size of the electric ES yet.
