Rolls-Royce replicates the Cullinan, in 1:8 scale
Rolls-Royce has a wealthy clientele, one that is ready to pay the price for that next level of luxury. The 1:8 scale model of the Cullinan represents the very same ideology, allowing customers to customise their scale model to match their actual car perfectly.
Sir Henry Royce once quoted, “Small things make perfection, but perfection is no small thing.” It is in this vein that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars presents to its clients, perfect scale models of Cullinan, the marque’s stellar SUV.
Due to the ongoing global pandemic, routine driving practices and other day-to-day activities have taken a pause. So, Rolls-Royce has given its customers a chance to design an authentic 1:8 replica of the Cullinan from the comfort of their home and bring some joy during the pandemic. Every detail on this scale model has been taken care of. Each model is hand-crafted, and the customer gets to design the scale model with a choice of over 1000 individual components. This process takes about 450 hours in production and is done at the home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England. The scale model is hand-painted using Rolls-Royce colour-matched paint followed by hand-polishing to the marque’s exacting specification. Customers also get the option to choose from a palette of around 40,000 ‘standard’ colours and replicate their own personal bespoke finish. The scale model is fully-functional and is remote-operated.
On the inside, the scale model gets illuminated treadplates that are revealed while opening the doors. The cabin gets embroidered headrests and wood finishing along with seat piping and stitching. When showcased in a display case at almost a metre in length, the replica is set on a gloss-black base mounted on a plinth allowing it to be appreciated from all angles. The Perspex window can be removed, enabling the minutiae of the doors, luggage compartment and engine bay to be viewed in detail.

The scale model of the Cullinan just fortifies the lengths Rolls-Royce is willing to go to please a customer. It showcases the attention to detail and craftsmanship the car-maker possesses, whether it’s a scale model or an actual car.
