MRF tyres announces a slew of measures in the battle against the ongoing pandemic

The company has contributed Rs 25 crore to the PM Cares Fund along with a number of other initiatives

With the country and the world reeling under the challenges presented by the Coronavirus pandemic, a number of corporations are stepping forward to help. MRF tyres has also announced a number of measures supporting the fight against the pandemic. The company has contributed a sum of Rs. 25 crore to the PM Cares Fund.

MRF plans to extend support in various ways by allowing state governments to utilise the company’s factories to facilitate different district level relief projects. It also plans to provide medicines, personal protective equipment for medical and relief personnel and also to weaker sections of society. Helping in the sanitisation of areas and distribution of essentials to migrant labour and the local community is also on their priority list. The company is also trying to ensure better access to food and nutrition for the underprivileged sections of the society that are affected due to the ongoing situation. It has instructed its management teams to work with district authorities and help them in relief activities that are being supported directly.

MRF is one of a number of automotive manufacturers and component manufacturers who have stepped up to help those in need. BMW recently pledged to contribute Rs 3 crore for the ongoing battle against the pandemic whereas Hyundai India donated Rs 5 crore to the Tamil Nadu’s chief minister's relief fund. Maruti Suzuki also stepped in by providing its in-house canteens to help the local community around its production plants.

MRF is not the first tyre manufacturer in India to take such an initiative. Recently Bridgestone India, another tyre giant stepped in by providing PPE kits, meals for the migrant workers and life-saving kits for truckers.

The COVID-19 pandemic is the toughest challenge that the world has faced in a really long time and now it is imperative for the manufacturers to collaborate with governments and support the communities in every way possible.
