The Honda Zero Alpha e-SUV will be sold in India in 2027

Honda Zero Alpha e-SUV prototype has officially been unveiled and showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. This prototype was presented at CES 2025 in January, is the first of the Zero Series to go into production and will carry Honda’s philosophy of “Thin, Light and Wise” that will be carried out in the models to follow. Honda has slated Zero Alpha e-SUV global sales in 2027, starting with Japan and India. Here’s a look at what this prototype promises for Honda’s future e-SUV.

Honda Zero Alpha e-SUV prototype design

This futuristic EV is the “gateway model” according to Honda’s plans for its Zero Series, conforms to the SUV bodystyle that dominates the industry. The exterior design approach closely adheres to Honda’s vision ‘Thin & Light’, we'll address the ‘Wise’ bit later. The Alpha e-SUV aims at bringing ample ground clearance without giving the SUV an unwieldy, towering height that will supposedly aid aerodynamics and better drag co-efficiency. It portrays a wide stance that is a staple SUV trait, ensuring stability in ride and comfort. The front features a faux-grille element in a contrasting colour for housing a lightbar meeting two vertical sectioned lights in the flanks. It also features the new ‘H’ logo which is now illuminated.

In profile, the SUV features clean surfacing with flush door handles and blacked out roof, A and B-pillars framing the greenhouse area. The C-pillar section gets a muscular treatment with sharp edges meeting from the roof and the tailgate surround. Also present is the chunky cladding on the wheel arches, giving it the presence of an SUV. The rear three-quarter view reveals that this SUV will have pronounced wheel arches. The rear of the prototype gets a U-shaped lightbar framing the rear windshield which gets Honda’s uppercase lettering instead of the logo. The tailgate’s seam almost ends in the middle of the bodywork and the rest of the area is taken over by a venturi tunnel-like rear bumper, probably hinting at the performance potential. The interior design is still under covers, however, it is said to have a cabin which will have a ‘Thin’ or efficiently packed elements to offer good space for the occupants despite the limited overall footprint of the vehicle.

Honda Zero Alpha e-SUV prototype technology

While Honda has remained hush-hush on all the details about the powertrain and drivetrain of their upcoming e-SUV. What we know is that the Zero Series has been developed as an EV from the ground up, while embodying the philosophy of “Joy of Driving” which will aim to make solutions like ‘steer-by-wire’ more engaging with ancillary technology such as a motion management system derived from their robotics division, which will calibrate the driving feel based on altitude. The upcoming range will also see a jump in battery fast charging technology with an aim to offer 80 per cent of charge in 10 to 15 minutes. Honda is also working towards achieving less than 10 per cent degradation in the battery pack’s range after 10 years of use. Circling back to the ‘Wise’ part of Honda’s vision, the Zero Series will be focussing on a deep integration of AI into the ADAS suite as well as IoT to provide a secure and automated experience and making it more accessible for the masses.

The Honda Zero Alpha e-SUV prototype is just the tip of the iceberg that’s about to emerge and be a hallmark of Honda’s future for its mass market EVs and the expanded portfolio for India.
