Toyota has revived the 'FJ Cruiser’ name with its new entry-level LC offering, the Land Cruiser FJ. The production-ready prototype is being showcased to the public for the first time at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, following its world premiere on October 21. This latest Toyota SUV will be underpinned by Toyota’s IMV 0 platform which is shared across models like the Hilux and the Fortuner. Here’s a rundown of everything it offers.
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ exterior and interior design
The new-age LC FJ carries a quirky yet utilitarian aesthetic with a blocky and squared-off silhouette complemented with chunky multi-piece body cladding that is meant to aid easy replacement of damage-prone elements such as the bumpers. Toyota is positioning it as the entry point to the LC lineup, making this SUV a compact off-roader. With a wheelbase of 2580mm, it will be 270mm shorter than the 250 Series LC.
It will also be offered with factory customisation options such as retro-inspired round headlights and MOLLE panels (grated frames for tethering off-road gear and equipment). There will only be a two-row, five-seater configuration for this model.
On the inside, the LC FJ brings a cabin layout borrowed from the 250 Series LC, meaning it has an upright and layered dashboard that favours low-set screens. Speaking of which, it is likely to get a pair of 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment and cluster like the 250 Series LC. Toyota also seems to be bucking the trend of moving away from physical controls and has incorporated well-spaced out chunky buttons in the centre console and the ’wheel for all the essential functions.
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ engine, transmission and chassis
The upcoming LC FJ is said to be powered by a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder, NA petrol engine capable of a peak output of 161bhp and 246Nm. It will be mated to six-speed ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission) with part-time 4WD. The LC FJ will have a turning radius of 5.5m along with wheel articulation abilities worthy of the Land Cruiser nameplate. Toyota claims that the new FJ will be as off-road capable as the 70 Series LC. It will also get additional underbody bracing for enhanced torsional rigidity and stability. Chassis-wise, it will be underpinned by a conventional body-on-frame chassis based on Toyota’s IMV 0 platform, which is shared with models such as the Hilux and the Fortuner.
The 250 Series LC or the latest ‘Prado’ has been spotted being tested in India, however there’s no official word about its arrival in India. To assume that the LC FJ is even being considered for India will be wishful thinking, but we hope that Toyota does the unthinkable and decides to expand its diminished portfolio in India with this latest model.
